Jonas Albreicht’s uniquely strong force of personality was noted at a young age. He was sent to learn magic from a particular summoner of note, and left to be apprenticed at a very young age (as leaving potential mages to possibly discover their gifts through independent study can have negative ramifications on local property values).
Partway through his apprenticeship, Jonas was called on to participate in a very questionable ritual by his master. Jonas was unsure as to the ritual’s purpose or safety, but his master insisted it was necessary, and so Jonas went along with it. The ritual appears to have failed dramatically, however, apparently destroying Jonas’s master and leaving Jonas now bound to an enigmatic entity known as the Twilight Watcher.
At least, that’s one theory. Jonas has also considered the alternate theory that the ritual drove him and, and that he is now slowly succumbing to madness. The idea that there is a mysterious occult force taking a direct interest in his life and career seems unlikely, and he is very aware that as a summoner, his dreams and imaginings can easily leak over into his magic. However, Jonas has no way to tell the difference between a world where he’s mad and a world where the Twilight Watcher is real, and so he reluctantly accepts the help of its herald (the Hound) and its lesser spirits.
Jonas has set out to be a wandering adventurer in order that he might do some good with his life before madness takes him or the obvious malovelence of the Watcher reveals itself.
